Child and Teen Counselling - Swindon
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs counselling ?
If your child seems overwhelmed, worried about lots of things, angry and struggling to hold it in with frequent outbursts, not enjoying school or isolating themselves and seemingly not having friends or feeling picked on, not sleeping and /or nightmares, bedwetting and any eating difficulties all indicate some emotional turmoil going on although it may be a normal developmental stage in life we can all do with help when we hit our midlife crises.
Will I be involved as a parent?
Parents often play an important role in the counselling process. The level of involvement will depend on your child’s age and needs. We do 6-weekly reviews with parents of primary age children and I can share helpful things that I’ve learned help in the play sessions but at teenage we will work for your child to communicate with you. Sometimes this may involve family sessions to address a particularly difficult topic if the child requests this. Confidentiality is important for them to feel safe to fully open up to me so I don’t share what they say to me unless there are safety concerns where I need parents to step in and support.
